An extremely rare 19th century tradesman's sign for 'Strond', advertising their abilities as a 'Painter, Paperhanger, and Sign Writer etc'. The typography has been cleverly created with finely cut mother-of-pearl veneer secured to the reverse side of the plate glass, embellished with hand-painted gold scrollwork and a black ground. The back of the glass has some sort of 'gritty' layer to protect the lettering from flaking off. It is housed in what looks like the original carved pine frame in its period watergilt and black paint finish.
