Victorian Natural History Museum specimen chest of drawers/cabinet. This ten drawer specimen cabinet comes from the Natural History Museum where it would have been used to safely house various specimen collections.
Made in solid Mahogany throughout, the craftsmanship is superb with dovetailed drawers, and a panelled carcass and original brass fittings throughout.
We have gone to town and had this exquisitely restored to its former glory. The internal dimensions of the drawers are 77cm deep, 13cm tall, and 91cm wide. The drawers run smoothly and the magnificent panelled doors close and lock with the original lock and key.
The main doors were originally very tightly sealed with a special rubber/fabric seal remnants of which still exist.
The cabinet retains its original patina and rich deep colour as well as its original castors and hand painted location number.
Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life.
All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
