Measuring in at 1.5m wide and 1m tall, this BP highway marker sign makes a real impact. The iconic BP logo is offset against it's bright, white enamel background as it would have originally had the distance to the next station stuck on - the resulting 'negative space' helps draw the focus towards the bright colours of the BP logo.
This piece was produced by Art France (makers mark present in the lower right corner) and features the later version of BPs logo which isn't often found on enamel signage - this piece must've been produced on the cusp of the switch over to cheaper paint-on-metal/plastic advertising formats which probably dates it to the early '60s.
Condition is generally excellent; though there is slight enamel loss on the corners, one small patch in the lower left section of the ‘B’ and a small patch just outside the shield. The sign has a 3cm return on all four edges adding rigidity and allowing for ease of hanging.
