Back to the Future is an unquestionably classic American science fiction film. Released in 1985 and starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as 'Doc' Brown, the film went on to become the highest-grossing film of '85 and in 2007 it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. This film began a franchise that included two sequels, an animated series and a theme park ride, it secured the DeLorean's place as a desirable, classic car and even lead to Nike releasing a limited edition pair of self-lacing trainers. Here we see an original film poster, in the US one-sheet format.
This particular poster was distributed by the Consolidated Theatre Services - the Calgary branch of the Canadian Poster Distribution network. The Calgary branch was essentially an independent distributor who would receive their material from the National Screen Service in the US and make slight modifications to the ratings etc to fit the Canadian sensor board's requirements before redistributing. We see their rubber stamp on the back of the poster along with a projectionist's handwritten title (very common with original posters from the period).
The poster has the typical NSS number printed to the front, lower right and the signature of Drew Struzan - the poster's artist is incorporated into the design near McFly's foot. This poster was originally tri-folded (as original posters from this period should be) it's been professionally framed using conservation grade backing paper and is ready to hang.
Including the frame the poster measures 107cm high x 71.5cm wide x 2.5cm deep.
