Particularly striking and intricately carved corner chair dating from the 1800s. Made of oak wood. Foliate carving on the arms, mythical / nature themed carving to the back with a cherub face at the centre point.
The removable cushion pad has been newly upholstered in grey with a black needled felt inner and a fire retardant interliner.
Corner chairs were first made in the 1700s and grew in popularity due to their being surprising comfortable and it is said that no two corner chairs are the same, each being a bespoke made piece. Ornate corner chairs were generally found in affluent households, whilst simpler versions could be seen in the public houses.
