The Globe Wernicke Co was born in the late 1800s in Cincinatti, USA, producing a unique design of stackable bookcases. The design of these adaptable units was so successful that by the turn of the century The Globe Wernicke Co Ltd was established in the England and other similar designs were being produced around Europe. Advertising for the company remarked on how the sectional construction of the bookcases helped to “solve the moving problem” by allowing them to be easily deconstructed and moved from room to room or house to house “being susceptible to many artistic combinations.”
