I have a love of lighthouses. So much so in fact that as an illustrator I have set myself the task to draw every single lighthouse in the UK.
I also have a collection of lighthouse prints which are available in the print section of this site.
I also collect lighthouse badges and over the years I have built up quite a range. Every now and again I end up with a couple of duplicates a few of which are available here. These are all exceptionally rare items.
This beautiful gilt and enamel badge / broach was made by Keen and Page in Plymouth in 1927. It is a wonderful piece of history as it depicts the ‘new’ Eddystone Lighthouse (Douglas’s Tower) with the stump of its predecessor (Smeaton’s Tower which now stands on Plymouth Hoe) in the background. Incidentally Douglas’s Tower is Britains joint tallest lighthouse!
I.O.R stands for Independent Order of Rechabites: A temperance movement of abstinence from alcohol. H.M.C. is likely to refer to His Majesties Coastguard.
Another very rare item.
